Integrated Perinatal Care

Perinatal care, concerned with comprehensive services for pregnant women and the newborn, has been at the centre of attention for the Programme. Multiple efforts have been undertaken to elaborate the concept of an “Essential Perinatal Service Package”. It constitutes a set of integrated, effective and patient-oriented services that has been adapted to the Ukrainian environment. The “service package” has been elaborated by a working group consisting of the representative of MoH, NMAPE, the oblast health administration and international specialists. The practical implementation and further improvement of the “service package” is one of the tasks of the current phase.

The Programme also supports and introduces the approach of a professional perinatal network. It corresponds to the principles of regionalized care (vertical networking). Further, the Programme enhances horizontal networking via different tools for experience exchange among professionals (e.g., with the use of ICT).

Closely connected with the “service package”, are modern approaches to knowledge management and continuous medical education. The new ‘know-how’ upgrading concepts shall improve the methodological ground of post-diploma education and provide an improved basis for practical training for medical personnel at primary and secondary levels of care.
