Implementation of IMCI has started
On 9-13 of August 2010 there was the first training on Integrated Management of Child Illness (IMCI) in Ivano-Frankivsk oblast. This training has taken place in the frame of implementation of IMCI strategy in Ukraine. The strategy is recommended by WHO aiming to improve medical care for children under 5 years old. According to MoH order #581 from 15.07.2010, it has been chosen the pilot rayons of several oblasts to implement the strategy. Sniatyn rayon of Ivano-Frankivsk oblast is one of the pilot ones.
Programme team was actively involved into the process of strategy adaptation and is also included into Coordination Board on dissemination of IMCI strategy (according to order #581). Thus, in the frame of MCH Programme the first training on IMCI has been conducted.
Among the trainers there were:
- Prof. Liudmila Kvashnina, national expert on IMCI, IPOG
- Sherengiya Ketevan (Georgia) and Stasiy Ekaterina (Moldova), international WHO experts
- Zoya Tsikhon and Natalia Khodan, oblast IMCI trainers
- Irina Matvienko and Oksana Chopko, Programme clinical consultants

In 5 working days 36 specialists – pediatricians, GP, nurses and others, - have become acquainted with strategy principles and IMCI protocols, got practical skills of clinical assessment of child and consultation of parents in clinical settings. Dynamic agenda of training has also foreseen the introduction of ICAT, software for individual and group learning, and reference source. Participants have highly evaluated the quality and clearness of materials and organization of practical sessions.

This training allowed to assess the training materials for its further adaptation. Also, some recommendations on improvement of training agenda and monitoring of strategy implementation have been done.
