Ukrainian-Swiss Mother and Child Health Programme

The longstanding Ukrainian-Swiss partnership started in 1997 and aims at supporting health sector reform and modernisation of health services in the area of Maternal and Child Health.

While earlier project phases concentrated on the tertiary care level, the overall Programme gradually shifted focus to secondary and primary levels while strengthening the referral system as a whole.

Beneficiaries of the Programme are:

  • Pregnant women and their partners
  • Women who recently delivered
  • Newborns and infants
  • Medical personnel of primary and secondary levels of perinatal care
  • Health care managers and authorities

During the last project phase, innovations in various thematic fields were pilot tested. The active implementation phase (2008-2010) aims largely at replicating these achievements in about nighteen new districts and aims at giving new impulses for health sector reform countrywide.

The current Ukrainian-Swiss Mother and Child Health Programme is jointly financed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC).
